Shen 3- Shaker 1

 Schuylerville – Shenendehowa advanced to the Sectional final with a convincing 3-1 win over Shaker. Shen’s offense was led by junior Kristen Connors, who accounted for all three goals. Connors first goal came about seven minutes in after a quick move in the box and she followed it about fourteen minutes in with a rebound finish off a shot by Emily DePoy. Connors third goal staked Shen to a 3-0 lead with about 18 minutes left in the second half off a nice lead pass from senior Erin Luibrand. Sophomore goalie Makala Foley played another strong game, despite a meaningless late Shaker goal, and made 13 saves behind another solid effort by Shen’s defense.

 

Shen 0 - Ballston Spa 0 (Shen wins in penalty kicks, 5-4)

Clifton Park  – Shenendehowa ran into a feisty Ballston Spa squad in the second round of sectional play, and came away with a win on penalty kicks 5-4. The teams played through a scoreless tie in regulation, and two overtime sessions, with each team having numerous opportunities to score. Shen especially picked up the offensive pace in the second half but could not get anything past B-Spa goalie Taylor Manderson, who finished with 21 saves. Shen’s Makala Foley again played solidly in goal, stopping seven B-Spa chances, and came up huge in the deciding shoot out. After Shen went down 2-0, Foley stopped two of three shots and Shen’s shooters -- Erin Luibrand, Jenelle Powell and Emily DePoy -- each beat Manderson to force a second round. In the second, Foley again made a key save and Shannon McMillan and Ali Lewis both connected to seal the victory.

 

Shen 3 - Burnt Hills 1

 Clifton Park – Shenendehowa closed out its regular season with a convincing 3-1 win over visiting Burnt Hills. Shen played aggressively on both sides of the ball, getting on the scoreboard 11 minutes in when senior Cassidy Clavet calmly nailed a rebound past BH goalie Florie Comley for a 1-0 lead. In the second half, Shen took a 2-0 lead when senior Emily DePoy’s free kick with the wind one-hopped over Comley, who had come out to try for the save. Senior Janelle Powell made it 3-0 Shen when she buried a shot after a scramble in the box off a corner kick. BH’s Meghan Malone got the visitors on the board with about eight minutes left after getting free in the box. Shen assists were credited to seniors Danielle Rizzicone and Shannon McMillian, while soph goalie Makala Foley made 11 saves in the win.

Latham – Shenendehowa played a solid game on both sides of the ball and defeated Shaker 3-0. Senior Danielle Rizzicone started the Shen scoring with a nice finish in the box off a rebound about 14 minutes in. Shen took the 1-0 lead into halftime and extended to 2-0 in the second when senior Emily DePoy drilled a penalty kick after junior Kristen Connors was fouled in the box. Junior Kaitlyn Curley finished the scoring with about eight minutes left, dropping a high shot over Shaker goalie Jamie Durant after a nice run down the right side. Sophomore goalie Makala Foley had five saves to seal Shen’s tenth shutout of the season.

Shen 1 - Ballston Spa 0

 Ballston Spa – Shenendehowa rebounded from its Senior Night loss with a 1-0 win over Ballston Spa. Shen struck early, when sophomore Meghan Merritt scored five minutes in with a high shot from about 15 yards out.  Shen controlled play in the midfield and their offensive end most of the game but was unable to get anything else past B-Spa goalie Taylor Manderson. The Shen defense again played solidly in front of senior goalie Juliana McDermott, who was rarely tested in the game. Shen registered its ninth shutout of the season with the win.

Saratoga 3 – Shen 1

 Clifton Park – Shenendehowa ran into a very determined Saratoga team on Senior Night and suffered a tough 3-1 loss. Cassidy Driscoll got Saratoga on the board first with a quick move and finish in the box. Saratoga took a 2-0 lead into halftime after Megan Nash nailed a bullet high and hard from about 25 yards out. Early in the second half, a scramble in front of the Shen goal led to a penalty kick for Brianna Sirianni, who finished for the 3-0 lead. Junior Kristen Connors got Shen on the board a little later after a nice feed from senior Cassidy Clavet, but Shen was unable to convert several other good chances. Goalies Juliana McDermott and Makala Foley combined for 13 saves.

Shen 2 - Niskayuna 0

Clifton Park - Shenendehowa used solid defense and timely scoring from junior Kristen Connors to hand Niskayuna their third loss of the season, 2-0. Shen got on the board 20minuets into the first half when senior Ali Lewis and Connors ran a pretty give and go on the right side, with Connors finishing off a perfect lead pass. Connors scored her second goal 17 minutes into the second half, with a beautiful scissor kick in the box after a corner from sophomore Sara Jane Phillips. Senior Jenelle Powell was credited with the assist.on the play. Sophomore Makala Foley made 10 saves in front of a very solid defense for Shen’s eighth shutout of the season.

Shen 2 - Averill Park 1 (OT)

Clifton Park - Shenendehowa survived a slow first half to edge Averill Park in overtime 2-1. Despite controlling the ball for much of the game, Shen had difficulty generating quality shots as AP’s defense packed the box. After a scoreless first half, sophomore Meghan Merritt got Shen on the board by finishing after a scramble in front off a corner kick by senior Ali Lewis. AP countered late in the game as Morgan Lionarons cashed in a penalty kick about 20 yards out. Shen senior Emily DePoy netted the winner in OT on a penalty kick after sophomore Jacklyn Romano was fouled in the box. Senior Juliana McDermott was solid in goal and the Shen defense limited AP to only a few offensive chances.

Shen 2 - Columbia 0

East Greenbush - Shenendehowa used a very strong team defense and two second half goals to down Columbia 2-0. Shen’s offense produced numerous first half offensive chances, but couldn’t find the net, settling for a 0-0 halftime tie. Shen again controlled play in the second half, finally cashing in when senior Jenelle Powell finished after a corner kick from junior Kaitlyn Curley. Senior Emily DePoy scored Shen’s second goal off a scramble in the box after senior Shannon McMillian’s penalty kick. The defense was anchored by Powell, senior Madeleine Rattray and sophomore Sara NassrElgrgawi, with sophomore Makala Foley making four saves for the shutout. Shen outshot Columbia for the game 23-4.

Burnt Hills 2 - Shen 1 (OT)

Burnt Hills - Shenendehowa lost a close, physical, hard-fought game in overtime to Burnt Hills 2-1. Shen took the early lead 14 minutes in when senior Ali Lewis took advantage of a defensive lapse to drill one over BH goalie Florie Comley from about 20 yards out. After a 1-0 halftime lead, the teams battled evenly until BH’s Meghan Malone got free in front and headed one in to even the game with 10 minutes in regulation. BH took control in the second OT when Morgan Burchhardt split two defenders and drilled a high shot for the winner. Juliana McDermott made 13 saves for the Plainsmen.

Clifton Park - Shenendehowa controlled play for most of the game and defeated visiting Shaker 2-0. Sophomore Meghan Merritt got Shen on the board first, 25 minutes in, with a pretty finish past Shaker goalie Jamie Durant after a penalty kick from senior Emily DePoy. After a 1-0 halftime lead, Shen continued to pressure the Shaker defense and hit pay dirt again when junior Kristen Connors split two defenders and beat a charging Durant to the ball and finished in the open goal. Another solid team defensive effort limited Shaker to 12 shots, with sophomore Makala Foley making nine saves for Shen’s sixth shutout of the season.

Rotterdam - Visiting Shenendehowa defeated Mohonasen 2-0 in a rain-shortened game. After a sluggish start, junior Kristen Connors got Shen on the board about 19 minutes in after a pass into the box from junior Kaitlyn Curley was deflected by senior Danielle Rizzicone. Connors found the goal again about five minutes later, again finishing after a centering pass from Curley. Senior Juliana McDermott made two saves for the shutout, which was called at halftime due to a violent thunderstorm.

Shen 1 - Bethlehem 0

Clifton Park - Shenendehowa controlled play for much of the game and defeated visiting Bethlehem 1-0. A solid defensive effort by seniors Madeleine Rattray, Jenelle Powell and Justine Buchanan left few opportunities for the Bethlehem offense. With seniors Emily Depoy and Cassidy Clavet controlling the midfield, Shen had numerous first half chances against Bethlehem goalie Katie Nickles, but failed to convert. Shen finally got on the board 30 minutes into the second half on a corner from senior Sylvia Kool to senior Ali Lewis, who headed a beautiful ball past Nickles for the winner. Shen outshot Bethlehem 30-6 for the game, with Makala Foley making six saves.

Shen 2 - Colonie 0

Colonie - Despite controlling the ball and having numerous offensive chances, Shen settled for a 0-0 halftime tie. The second half was a different story with Shen again controlling play but cashing in twice to take control. Senior Ali Lewis started the scoring ten minutes in, drilling a high shot from the right side off a nice feed from senior Jenelle Powell. Sophomore Jaclyn Romano put the game out of reach with a breakaway off a great lead pass from senior Danielle Rizzicone six minutes later for the 2-0 final. Juliana McDermott earned the shutout, making three saves.

Guilderland 1 - Shen 0

Clifton Park - Shenendehowa lost a closely contested game with visiting Guilderland 1-0. The teams played evenly in a light mist for much of the first half, resulting in a 0-0 tie. Guilderland took advantage of an opportunity late in the second half when Marissa Cubillos broke free down the right sideline and centered the ball to Laurie Knapp, who finished the play for the only score of the game. Shen outshot Guilderland 22-11 for the game, with Makala Foley making 10 saves.

     Clifton Park - Shenendehowa controlled play for most of the game and bested visiting Ballston Spa by a 4-0 score. Senior Danielle Rizzicone paced the offense with two first half goals on assists from junior Kristen Connors and senior Cassidy Clavet. Shen played solid team defense throughout the game in front of senior keeper Juliana McDermott, preventing any serious Ballston Spa offensive chances. Senior Emily DePoy and sophomore Jaclyn Romano closed out the Shen scoring with second half goals.

Niskayuna 3 - Shen 2

     Niskayuna - Shenendehowa lost a close, hard fought match at Niskayuna. Shen controlled play early, but Niskayuna got on the board first with a high, tightly angled shot from Meghan Doyle. Shen’s Ali Lewis countered with a 25 yard bullet from the right side to earn a 1-1 halftime tie. Doyle found the goal again ten minutes into the second half, but Shen countered, this time with Kristen Connors’ header off a nice feed into the box from Cassidy Clavet. With overtime looming, Nisky scored the winner from about 10 yards out with 0:33 remaining on the clock.

Shen 1 - Saratoga 0 (OT)

     Saratoga - Shenendehowa survived a slow first half start and came back to defeat Saratoga in overtime 1-0. Strong first half efforts from sophomore goalie Makala Foley and senior defenders Justine Buchanan, Jenelle Powell and Maddeleine Rattray turned back numerous Saratoga opportunities. Shen picked up the pace in the second half, more effectively controlling the midfield and pressuring Saratoga, and took control in OT with a beautiful lead pass from senior Cassandra McNitt to sophomore Jaclyn Romano, who quickly flicked the ball past Saratoga goalie Liz Rogan for the winner.
